Stress is killing us at astounding rates. According to the National Health Institute, 70-90% of diseases are stress borne. Life's pressures are rampant, wreaking havoc on our economic and personal wellbeing. It appears we all could use some help decompressing - so why don’t we embed these ideals into our everyday infrastructures?
What if mental health care was as much a part of urban planning as architecture is?
A proposal for a more conscious public realm that is responsive to physical and emotional states. Through subtle, subconscious regulation of our sympathetic nervous systems, we could create a world where our cities work to bring us peace and aid in the abetment of disease.
It’s time for a conscious public realm, one that’s integrated with us, for us.
